The advantages of using scrape method is it work thoroughly, the disadvantage is the heavy workload, and repeatedly scrape will make cylinder bore become elliptical, even oblique. So just in the early years of production units, cylinder manufacture within the residual stress of the flange largely deformed, thus when the combination surface appear large area gap we use scrape method.
